Former NFL Pro Bowler looks like he’s trying to beef with Jerry Jeudy again thanks to what the Browns have done in the 2026 NFL Draft

The Cleveland Browns have made a major investment at wide receiver in the NFL Draft and it’s caused an old beef to be brought up for Jerry Jeudy.

The Cleveland Browns were always going to spend a premium pick on a wide receiver in this draft to fill one of their biggest glaring needs. To pick to wideouts in the first two rounds for the Browns shows they’re making a major investment at the position, and there’s going to be some players pushed off the roster by the way of a trade or as a cut because of it.

Jerry Jeudy is under contract and keeping him around as a weapon for the offense makes sense after adding KC Concepcion and Denzel Boston through the first two days of the draft. Someone like Cedric Tillman very well could be on the way out.

One former Pro Bowler who has a past beef with Jerry Jeudy has started up a bit of drama

Steve Smith Sr. had a past altercation with Jeudy and he took to X to post a message that someone on the Browns would be hiring a moving company soon after Cleveland’s decision to draft a pair of wideouts. The message that he’s not saying who all but gives away who he’s talking about.

Back in 2023, Smith made a strong comment about Jeudy during a Monday night football game, which got plenty of attention.

“I’m sorry I said you were a ‘JAG,’ just a guy, who is an average wide receiver they used a first-round pick on that isn’t doing anything,” Smith stated. “I hope today you actually show up in a way you haven’t shown up in the last couple of years since they drafted you.

“So if you ever got a problem with Agent 89, I’m sorry for saying you’re an average wide receiver that they will eventually move on [from]. And when teams call me and ask if they should trade for you, I would say no, don’t trade for Jerry Jeudy. Because he’s mentally unable to handle constructive criticism from people who watch specifically, can he be a wide receiver? He can be a wide receiver. He’s a tier three.”

Since then, Jeudy seems to have rushed the beef off and hasn’t really given it any attention. Jeudy last commented on it in July of 2025.

“It is what it is, man,” Jeudy said during a Sunday appearance on Nightcap. “I ain’t really too stressed about that. It’s old news. He said some things in the past, and I said some things in the past. I know who I am at the end of the day and I proved it last year.”

Browns’ decision on whether or not to trade Jerry Jeudy is easy

It’s not out of the realm of possibility for the Browns to trade Jeudy, but there’s no point in making the team worse when Jeudy has proven he can be a strong wideout presence in Cleveland. Jeudy is under contract through the 2028 season and his $17.5 million APY on his contract is really good value for where the wideout market is.

The Browns can’t get a quarterback upgrade this offseason, so the next best thing they can do is give the current QB situation the best possible surroundings to operate. Keeping Jeudy around fits in there.
