Browns’ surprise offseason standout very well could end up being an X-Factor in Cleveland

The Cleveland Browns had an offseason of change. However, one young piece that’ll be returning to the offseason could end up being Cleveland’s X-factor.

The Cleveland Browns upgraded their wide receiver room in a major way during the offseason by adding KC Concepcion and Denzel Boston during the draft.

Jerry Jeudy remains with the team and will be a focal point of the offense. With how the offseason has looked to this point, the Browns could be relying on a former undrafted free agent to have a big role in the room as well.

Browns WR Isaiah Bond could be an X-Factor in Cleveland

ESPN recently released a list of 32 offseason surprises across the NFL, featuring players who have stood out during minicamp. For the Browns, the pick was second-year WR Isaiah Bond, and it’s hard to argue with the noise he’s made this offseason.

“The Browns drafted wide receivers KC Concepcion and Denzel Boston in April, but no Cleveland wideout was targeted more than Bond this spring,” ESPN’s Daniel Oyefusi wrote. “The second-year receiver continued to display his speed and showed off the 15 pounds of muscle he added this offseason with a bunch of contested catches.”

Bond’s name surfaced a ton between voluntary and mandatory OTAs for a player who was getting open and gaining yards once he had the ball in his hands. Bond was undrafted out of Texas a year ago due to a legal situation he was going through, and the Browns took a chance on him later in the offseason as a UDFA. The early returns were strong, as Bond went for 18 catches and 338 receiving yards.

Isaiah Bond is working toward a Year 2 jump

This offseason has been all about getting stronger and improving his body for Bond. The 5-foot-11, 180-pound wideout has noticeably added muscle to his frame, which is only going to help him as a player.

“If you want to be a great player, you’ve got to upgrade every facet of your game. So, weight room was one thing that I focused on all offseason this year, be able to play big, get in space more, stuff like that,” Bond said recently. “That’s one of the reasons I picked up a lot of weight to be able to catch balls over the middle, be able to block and outside more, just more intermediate in the box things, to add on top of the deep threat ability, for sure.”

There’s a world where Bond is the team’s No. 4 or even the third option at wide receiver, and he’s still a very key player. Bond has game-breaking speed and if he’s popping off for a huge play every other week or so, it’d be ideal for the Browns.

The noise around the Texas product has been real this season and it’s hard to see a world where he’s not a key part of what Todd Monken’s offense does this year
