Paul Finebaum drops bold statement on a major QB decision the Cleveland Browns should make
Paul Finebaum gives his take on what the Cleveland Browns should think when it comes to the possibility of adding Texas Tech QB Brendan Sorsby.
The Cleveland Browns are a team that doesn’t have a franchise quarterback until they do. The big swing for Deshaun Watson has yet to work out for the Browns and he’s in the final year of his contract. Cleveland has Watson and Shedeur Sanders battling for the starting job, but there’s potentially another quarterback domino yet to fall for the Browns.
Cleveland drafted Taylen Green in the sixth round of April’s draft and they still have Dillon Gabriel on the roster as well. Still, the Browns are a team that could make some sense for Texas Tech QB Brendan Sorsby if the NFL holds a supplemental draft.
Paul Finebaum gives his take on the Browns and Brendan Sorsby
Cleveland is one team that’s going to be tied to the possibility of Sorsby until he has his NFL home. A very good quarterback prospect but Sorsby’s gambling ordeal that ended up being the nail in his college football career is a legit concern. Still, ESPN’s Paul Finebaum thinks the Browns should be in on him.
“I would say yes because frankly looking at the QB roster of the Cleveland Browns, there’s not much one at this point,” Finebaum stated. “I don’t know much about Brendan Sorsby, I think he can play, what he did was stupid.”
Still believe there’s somebody out there that can shape this kid’s story. As long as he can play in the NFL, we tend to forget everything else. I don’t know why I’m telling guys that cover the Cleveland Browns that, but you’re probably familiar with what I’m talking about.”
Watson hasn’t shown the Browns the ability to be a long-term answer over the past four years and the odds of Sanders being the answer as a fifth-round pick aren’t great. Sorsby was being talked about as a potential 2027 first-round pick at quarterback and would be the most talented in Cleveland if the Browns took a chance on him.
If Cleveland ends up being interested, they’ll have to give up a 2027 pick to land him, depending on what the bid would be. Placing a fourth-round pick on him sounds a lot more appealing than wagering a first or second on a player with an alleged gambling addiction.
The supplemental draft will be held in July if one happens, and then we’ll have a firm idea on whether or not Cleveland will be in on the Red Raiders QB. Taking Sorsby would push a second quarterback currently on the roster at cutdowns when the Browns have to get to three quarterbacks for the 53-man roster.
