When undrafted linebacker Mohamoud Diabate put together a quality preseason, he knew there was a chance he could make the Cleveland Browns' 53-man roster.
And since surviving the team's flurry of cuts and waivers, Diabate is making a promise to the Browns that, if he lives up to it, will put the team's defense in a pretty good position in 2023.
"I'm going to continue to have the opportunity to keep showing what I am about," Diabate said on Thursday. "I love it here. I love the coaches, staff, facility, everything about being a Cleveland Brown."
Coming out of Utah, Diabate burst onto the Browns' scene during the preseason with the utilization of his athleticism to make "I-can't-believe-that-happened" type of plays.
Against the Eagles, specifically, Diabate recorded a safety and forced fumble. He also snuck in a late in the second quarter sack, which undoubtedly left a good impression on the Browns, whose defense is predicated on generating pressure and disrupting plays in the backfield.
"You love ball-ware players," Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski said in mid-August. "He's really taken, practice field to game field."
With his name locked on the Browns' 53-man roster, he now has a chance to continue doing what he does best — being a disrupter. And it is a task he is willing to take up heading into Week 1 against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sept. 10.
