Browns HC Todd Monken made an eyebrow raising admission about Myles Garrett ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft

Myles Garrett is not at voluntary camp for the Browns and it’s catching attention. Todd Monken’s comment is worth noting at this time in the offseason as well.

Coach Todd Monken answers press questions after the Browns mini camp in Berea on April 21, 2026.

When Myles Garrett was seen with front-court seats at the Cleveland Cavaliers playoff opener against the Toronto Raptors, there was some thought he could be in town to attend voluntary minicamp with the Cleveland Browns.

With camp off and running on Tuesday, Garrett was not in attendance. Coming off his second Defensive Player of the Year campaign and the Browns hiring a new coach, Garrett being in attendance would have been a nice morale boost.

Todd Monken comments on Myles Garrett not at voluntary minicamp

Cleveland’s head coach admitted on Tuesday that he’s yet to speak to Garrett in person since he was named the head coach of the Browns at the end of January. The two have exchanged text messages, but the All-Pro has not spoken to his new head coach.

“It’s fine. This is voluntary,” Monken said. “We’re making a big deal out of this. We really are. It’s voluntary. We have other guys besides Myles who aren’t here. I wish they were here. They’ll be ready. We expect them to be ready, and we’ll be fired up when they’re here.

Other Browns players notably who are not at the voluntary camp are CB Denzel Ward and WR Jerry Jeudy. It’s not unusual for Garrett not to be at voluntary camp, but the notable thing is him not having at least an in-person meeting with Monken.

The Browns will host mandatory OTAs later this offseason and Garrett will be expected to be there. It’s a tough look for the Browns for now with the draft days away and their best player still having not seen the new head coach in person.
