The Indianapolis Colts followed up their Week 8 win over the Tennessee Titans with an under-the-radar roster move. The team needed a more reliable depth edge rusher on their practice squads who could be elevated to the active roster if needed. And they might have just found it in former Super Bowl champion Tanoh Kpassagnon.

Tanoh Kpassagnon’s career stats

  • 2017-2020 Chiefs: 61 games, 24 starts, 7.0 sacks, 13 tackles for loss
  • 2021-2023 Saints: 43 games, 10 starts, 9.5 sacks, 10 tackles for loss
  • 2024 Bears: 4 games, 1 sack, 1 tackle for loss

Colts sign edge Tanoh Kpassagnon to their practice squad

The Kansas City Chiefs selected Kpassagnon in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft. He spent the first four years of his career in Kansas City, including their Super Bowl win in 2019. He started 24 games, including a career high 15 starts in 2020, his final season with the team. He then joined the New Orleans Saints for the next four years, and his most recent stop came with the Chicago Bears during Weeks 1-4.

The Colts are expected to be without edge Samson Ebukam for multiple weeks due to an injury. This led the team to elevate Durell Nchami ahead of Week 8. They can only do this one more time before Nchami must be signed to the active roster to be active on game day. This signing of Kpassagnon gives the Colts a reliable option on their practice squad that can play rotational snaps if needed. He has played in over 100 games during his nine-year NFL career and has recorded 17.5 sacks and 23 tackles for loss.

Kpassagnon hasn’t lived up to his second-round draft selection, but it’s not easy to put together a nine-year career. The fact that he is now getting a shot with his fourth team is impressive. I fully anticipate seeing him dress for the Colts at some point this season, and it wouldn’t be shocking if he is signed to the active roster to serve as a rotational edge rusher who excels against the run.
