The Buffalo Bills traded for former Chicago Bears wide receiver DJ Moore in hopes that the talented pass catcher can make a difference in the offense. Bringing a true No. 1 wide receiver to Buffalo was always the plan, and Buffalo did quick work in the offseason to make the move happen.

It wasn’t without controversy, as people saw the second-round pick going to Chicago and his huge cap hit, and some fans were worried about the deal as a whole. Personally, I think almost a third-round pick for a proven talent like Moore is a slam dunk for the organization.

On Tuesday, fans got some more good news surrounding Moore and his tenure with the Bills, and it all happened without Moore having to catch a single pass or really do anything.

It’s been confirmed that Buffalo has converted $22.18 million of Moore’s salary into a signing bonus, adding one void year and clearing $17.7 of 2026 cap space.

It was a contract conversion that the fans had anticipated. Bills needed the space to trade for him, then lowered his cap hit after making the deal.

The Bills are essentially kicking the can down the road with Moore’s contract. He’s still going to have a massive cap hit moving forward, but Buffalo can continue the trend of converting his contract into a signing bonus to clear up some cap space down the line.

At the end of the day, this is the price of doing business when you’re trying to win a Super Bowl.

Buffalo didn’t bring in Moore to think about 2028 cap implications; they brought him in to maximize the prime of quarterback Josh Allen. If that means pushing money into future years to build the best possible roster today, it’s a move you make every single time.

And with more cap space now available, don’t be surprised if general manager Brandon Beane isn’t done making moves quite yet.
