Though the Dallas Cowboys were hoping a top-tier wide receiver would fall to them to the 44th overall pick, they once again stuck to their board and picked one of the best players available.
The Cowboys picked edge rusher Donovan Ezeiruaku from Boston College with their second-round draft pick. The move has been applauded by most of the Draft community mostly because he's a defender with a high floor. Though many would expect a second-round draft pick to need some time to develop, Ezeiruaku is labeled as an "immediate quality starter" from the A to Z Sports' draft team. Draft analyst A.J. Schulte explains why in the scouting report below.
Ezeiruaku is the second consecutive second-round edge rusher the Cowboys draft after picking Marshawn Kneeland in 2024. However, there's a clear difference between the two. Kneeland specialized as a run defender in college whereas Ezeiruaku is known more as a pass rusher.
Ezeiruaku will join Matt Eberflus' defense, which heavily relies in its four-man fronts to generate pressures as he rarely blitzes. Fortunately, Donovan's skillset is well-polished and he's capable of making an impact early.
Donovan Ezeiruaku Scouting Report
Donovan Ezeiruaku, EDGE, School
Age (Birthday): 21 (09/25/2003)
A to Z Sports Expected Draft Position: 35
Pre-Draft Round Projection: 2
Donovan Ezeiruaku is one of the most gifted pass rushers in this class with arguably the best bend and elite quickness flying off the line of scrimmage. On top of that, he's got the deepest bag of pass rush moves in this class and a relentless motor.
He's on the smaller side for pass rushers, showing up to the NFL Combine at just 6'2' and less than 250 pounds. That might cause him to drop slightly on draft day, but he makes up for that lack of size with his 34-inch arm length that he knows how to use well. – AJ Schulte
Career Projection: Immediate Quality Starter
The Cowboys picked offensive guard Tyler Booker from Alabama in the first round of the Draft and are scheduled to go on the clock again at 76th overall in the third. Dallas currently has no fourth round pick but the front office will likely move around as it currently holds seven draft choices between the fifth and seventh rounds.
