Dallas Cowboys fans watching World Cup games at AT&T Stadium will inevitably get mad at Jerry Jones for totally valid reason
We’re getting yet another example of how silly the Dallas Cowboys’ stance on using curtains for NFL games is ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
This summer, AT&T Stadium will hold the most World Cup games. And while the venue will be familiar to Dallas Cowboys fans watching on-site or from TV, they will notice a big difference in at least one game.
And it’s something that will inevitably make Cowboys Nation mad at owner and general manager Jerry Jones.
Jerry Jones will use curtains to block the sun
According to Front Office Sports’ Margaret Fleming, AT&T Stadium will use curtains to block the sun for at least one World Cup game. There will be nine games played at the Cowboys home in total.
Jones has notably refused from doing so during his Cowboys games, even though the sun’s glare has affected the team on the field multiple times, most often by blinding receivers.
Though Cowboys co-owner Stephen Jones recently described it as a home-field advantage, even wide receiver CeeDee Lamb expressed frustration with the decision in 2024. After missing what would have been a touchdown catch, Lamb said he “one thousand percent” believed AT&T Stadium should use curtains to block the sun.
Jones disagreed then and still does.
“We know where the sun is going to be when we flip the coin, so we do know where the damn sun is going to be in our own stadium,” Jones said following the Lamb incident. “Let’s just tear the damn stadium down and build another one. Are you kidding me?”
AT&T Stadium using curtains isn’t a first
For those optimistic Cowboys fans who want to view this as a sign maybe Jerry Jones is finally changing his mind, my recommendation is don’t.
Though they’re not used for Cowboys games, curtains at AT&T Stadium are often brought down for concerts and other sports events like the WWE. So it’s not surprise FIFA will require the venue to use curtains in games where the sun glare could be a factor.
In other words, this isn’t anything new. But it is yet another example of how silly and laughable Jones’ stance on curtain use is.
