There’s only one prediction you can make about the 2026 Dallas Cowboys and guarantee it will come true: Their schedule will be loaded with primetime games.

It’s the way of the NFL when it comes to America’s Team. Year after year, the Cowboys dominate the league’s primetime schedule and on top of it, they get a guaranteed afternoon Thanksgiving spot. In 2025, they even got a Christmas Day showdown. Simply put, the league is a sucker for watching the Cowboys under the lights.

Well, Super Bowl LX just gave them another chance to sneak in a Cowboys primetime game in the 2026 NFL season.

Cowboys at Seahawks makes sense for NFL Kickoff

With the Seahawks becoming Super Bowl champions, they will host the NFL Kickoff come Sept. 10 at Lumen Field. Since the Cowboys are one of their away opponents for the season, they’re eligible to be chosen for the game.

And here’s the thing: The Cowboys are the only NFL team with three appearances as the away team in the league’s Kickoff game since 2002. They’ve appeared in the opening game twice since 2021, including last year against the Philadelphia Eagles.

And a quick look at the other eligible teams makes it clear the Cowboys will be a strong candidate:

  • New England Patriots
  • Los Angeles Rams
  • San Francisco 49ers
  • Arizona Cardinals
  • Kansas City Chiefs
  • Los Angeles Chargers
  • New York Giants
  • Chicago Bears

While both the Rams and 49ers make sense, both are facing off in Melbourne, Australia in what is expected to be a Week 1 game.

Two teams that could compete with Dallas for the spot: The Patriots and the Bears.

New England could make plenty of sense if the NFL wants to go with an immediate Super Bowl rematch, though last year the NFL decided to wait until Week 2 for a Kansas City Chiefs vs. Philadelphia Eagles rematch. Meanwhile, capitalizing on the Caleb Williams hype should make the Bears another enticing option for the league.

Brazil game shouldn’t keep Cowboys from playing in NFL Kickoff

It would be logical to expect the Cowboys to be busy in Brazil since the NFL has played there in Week 1 each of the last two seasons. However, early rumors suggest the Rio game will be played later.

According to Sports Business Journal, it will likely take place in Week 3 at 4:25 p.m. ET. So I wouldn’t expect that to be a problem for the Cowboys showing up in the NFL Kickoff.

The league announces the regular season schedule in May, but important dates like the Kickoff should come days before the full schedule release.
