Von Miller would apparently like to play for the Dallas Cowboys, here’s what he would cost and why a discount is viable
What do the financials say about the Dallas Cowboys’ chances of signing outside linebacker Von Miller? And why they have an advantage over the rest of the NFL.
So, Von Miller is uploading pictures of him in Dallas Cowboys attire and talking about them having a special place in his heart. Marketing and media manipulating? Or legit NFL wish?
That remains unclear. But as I laid out in an earlier article, he could make sense for the Cowboys. Dallas needs depth and specifically, a high-floor pass rusher. He coincided with defensive coordinator Christian Parker in Denver back in 2021.
But when it comes to the Cowboys, cost is always a bigger item to discuss than we would like it to be. So let’s dive into the potential financials.
How much would signing Von Miller cost the Cowboys?
Before I dive into the projected market value of Miller, a seven-time All-Pro, let me say this. The reason why we can’t deny the cost matters is simple. Even in a year in which the Cowboys appear to be in a win-now window, the team ranked 18th in free agency spending per Over the Cap.
Fortunately for them, singing Miller isn’t a very expensive endeavor in 2026. According to Spotrac, Miller’s projected market value sits at $5.8 million on a one-year deal—which is likely to be what Miller is looking for at 37 years old.
It also fits what Miller played for in 2025 for the Washington Commanders. Miller signed for $6.1 million last year, with a chance to be worth $10.5 million with incentives. He ended up earning $1 million in incentives after recording nine sacks.
The Cowboys would likely get away with offering Miller a similar deal, though the question is if they can win a bidding war should multiple teams be interested.
A discount on Von Miller is doable
It’s no secret the Cowboys pitch business opportunities to free agents when recruiting them. Von Miller appears to be doing that for himself already. In an interview with RJ Ochoa from Blogging the Boys, Miller was quick to point out business interests when asked if he’d like to play for the Cowboys.
“It would be great to be a Dallas Cowboy,” Miller said. “Raising Cane’s is a sponsor of the Dallas Cowboys, you know it’s it’s great to have, you know a owner and founder like Todd Graves to invest you know in in the future of the future generation of football.”
Miller is a part of the Sack Summit, sponsored by Raising Cane’s.
“Playing for the Dallas Cowboys, that’d even further our relationship with with Raising Cane’s and Todd,” Miller added.
Miller, who lives in DeSoto, Texas and has business in the area, also noted proximity to home as a reason why he’d like to play for the Cowboys.
I bet all this could lead Miller to be willing to sign at a discount if a hypothetical Cowboys offer is in range of what other teams might offer.
The timing fits for Cowboys and Miller
The timing for a signing makes sense for both parties. Last year, the Cowboys added EDGE Jadeveon Clowney in September, a sign they’re comfortable with making late additions to the roster. As for Miller, he waited until late July to sign with the Commanders ahead of training camp.
All of this is speculation, and there are no reports indicating talks are happening, but if Miller truly wants to be a Cowboy, there certainly is a path for him to get a roster spot.
