Key Broncos player already has one foot out the door, but that’s actually a good thing for Denver in 2026
A key Denver Broncos player is already thinking about where he’ll be after the 2026 season, but that’s not a bad thing. In fact, it may be a positive for the Broncos in 2026.
A key Denver Broncos player who is entering the final season of his contract seems to already have one foot out the door.
But that’s probably a good thing for the Broncos in 2026.
Marvin Mims knows it’s unlikely he’s back in Denver in 2027
Denver wide receiver/returner Marvin Mims is entering the final year of his rookie deal. He admitted this week that he loves Denver, while acknowledging that it’s very likely that he’ll be playing elsewhere in 2027.
“Sometimes I’m not in the most fortunate situation,” said Mims to DNVR’s Zac Stevens this week. “Sometimes I am a little irritated with my situation, but at the end of the day I’m blessed to be where I am today, standing right here where I am. I love Denver. I love the city, I love the fans, love the atmosphere, love my teammates, love my coaches. So, with this possibly being my last year, I’m just going to enjoy it to the fullest, going through it carefree and just play my hardest because we have a real chance to do something extremely special.”
Mims, an All-Pro kick returner, is expected to see a reduced role in the Broncos’ offense after the team acquired wide receiver Jaylen Waddle earlier this offseason.
Still, Mims is an important player for Denver — he’s capable of scoring every time he touches the ball. He may not put up huge numbers, but he could end up making some important plays at critical times.
Most importantly, though, Mims is entering the season motivated. He knows what’s on the line. Mims knows he needs to maximize his opportunities this fall in order to have any shot at a decent free agent contract.
There will be plenty of teams in the market for a wide receiver next spring. And Mims will be an attractive option given his skill set. He may know that his longterm future isn’t in Denver, but he can still help the Broncos in a big way. And his free and easy mindset entering the season should allow him to be the best version of himself, which Denver will benefit from in 2026. It’s a win-win for everyone.
