National outlet uses word to describe the Broncos’ offseason and it’s why the rest of the NFL is anxious about Denver
There is no about the Denver Broncos’ goal for the 2026 NFL season. After coming up a game short of the Super Bowl last season, the Broncos’ goal is clearly to be the last team standing in February.
The Denver Broncos were one of the best teams in the NFL last season, but they came up a game short of the Super Bowl due to a fourth-quarter blizzard and an injury to starting quarterback Bo Nix.
Denver entered the offseason as a top Super Bowl contender, but the franchise still needed to make some roster upgrades.
The biggest objective was to add another playmaker for Nix. The Broncos did that by acquiring wide receiver Jaylen Waddle from the Miami Dolphins.
CBS Sports labels the Broncos’ offseason as explosive
The addition of Waddle led to CBS Sports using the word “explosiveness” to describe the Broncos’ offseason.
“Waddle immediately adds downfield explosiveness to a Broncos offense that sometimes lacked it in 2025,” noted CBS Sports’ Zachary Pereles. “In fact, Denver ranked 27th in average depth of target when throwing to wide receivers (7.4 yards). Waddle was at 13.1. He can win on intermediate and deep throws, and Sean Payton and Bo Nix are going to absolutely love him. He fits in perfectly alongside Courtland Sutton, a bigger, more physical archetype. Waddle averaged 14.1 yards per catch last year. Only one Broncos wide receiver (Sutton) averaged over 11.”
The rest of the NFL is well aware of how good the Broncos can be this fall with Waddle now on the roster. That’s why the rest of the league is anxious about Denver in 2026 — they know that Sean Payton’s squad has all the ingredients to be the best team in the NFL (the Kansas City Chiefs are undoubtedly hyperaware of what the Broncos have done this offseason).
Denver needs everyone to stay healthy this season, but otherwise, they’re shaping up to be the team to beat in the AFC in 2026.
