New Bears HC Ben Johnson wastes no time calling out Matt LaFleur and the Packers

Over the past few years, every person hired by the Chicago Bears has to say something about the Green Bay Packers. A Week 18 win that ended an 11-game losing streak didn't change that after all.
On Wednesday, new Bears head coach Ben Johnson already talked about the rivalry. And, as a former Detroit Lions offensive coordinator, he is confident about the matchup.
When asked about his decision to stay in the NFC North, Johnson threw an early jab at Packers head coach Matt LaFleur.
"I'm gonna be quite frank with you," Johnson said. "I kind of enjoyed beating Matt LaFleur twice a year."
Ben Johnson spent six seasons with the Lions—the same amount of time LaFleur has been with the Packers. In this period, the Packers and Lions faced off 12 times, with six wins for each side.
The Lions have had more success lately, in fact, with five wins in the last six games—including sweeps in 2022 and 2024. And this is the period in which Johnson had a more prominent role within the organization.
Ben Johnson has been a hot head coaching candidate for three years. After passing opportunities in the two previous cycles, he decided now it was time to accept it.
And to beat the Packers twice a year, he will have to change a lot of things. Since LaFleur took over as Green Bay's head coach, the Packers have an 11-1 record against the Bears.
