Packers veteran knows what a Super Bowl roster looks like and believes Green Bay already has the ingredients to win it all
Quarterback Tyrod Taylor won a championship early in his career as a backup for the Baltimore Ravens, and he knows how hard it is to play the last game.
Quarterback Tyrod Taylor entered the NFL in 2011 as a sixth-round pick. In his second season for the Baltimore Ravens, he was part of a Super Bowl-winning roster as a backup. Eventually, his career would include 100 appearances in games with 61 starts so far, but he never got back to that final game.
Taylor knows how hard it is to reach that level, but he also understands what it takes to win it. And that’s why he chose the Green Bay Packers.
“You definitely try to look for teams that have the best talent, but that doesn’t always win championships,” Taylor said in the locker room last week. “It’s about the nucleus, the chemistry, and obviously staying healthy. Every team at this time of year feels they have the pieces to do so.”
It’s a difficult combination
That Ravens team in 2012 had the talent with players like Ray Lewis, Terrell Suggs, Ed Reed, Anquan Boldin, Torrey Smith, and Marshal Yanda. Joe Flacco was the starting quarterback. But beyond the talent itself, the mindset was key to winning a ring.
It’s impossible to know how the season will shake out in June, but Tyrod Taylor is confident about what he’s seen so far in Green Bay.
“It’s about putting in the work, day in and day out, keeping the right mindset,” Taylor added. “And I think the guys in this locker room have the right mindset to be able to achieve what we all want to achieve.”
Experienced backup
The Packers gave Tyrod Taylor a one-year, $2.5 million contract. Part of the calculus to add him behind Jordan Love on the depth chart was exactly his experience. Since Love took over as a starter in 2023, the backups were even less experienced than him, Sean Clifford and Malik Willis.
Beyond the proven performance over the years and the knowledge to go there and play if needed, Taylor has the mental skillset to help Jordan Love week in and week out.
Taylor has been through a lot in the NFL, from championship teams to limited rosters. Now, he can put all that accumulated experience to work for the Packers.
