There isn’t much time till the Indianapolis Colts will take the field in Westfield, Indiana, for training camp. The opening stages of free agency and the 2026 NFL Draft have come and gone. Only a few more offseason events remain before the real build-up to next season begins.

There is still plenty of work to do ahead of training camp. The roster, as is, still has two glaring questions they have to answer. To give them the best chance of succeeding in 2026, those answers need to come before training camp even arrives.

Who is going to start at wide receiver with Alec Pierce and Josh Downs for the Colts?

To extend Alec Pierce, the Colts had to trade Michael Pittman Jr. to the Pittsburgh Steelers. And to make things worse, Pierce had to undergo a procedure on his ankle this offseason, which will keep him out of OTAs.

That makes the need for finding the second outside starting even more important. Because right now the Colts will be operating with two of Josh Downs, Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, Deion Brooks, and Laquon Treadwell as the starting outside receivers. That won’t accurately represent the team’s expected receiver core.

Right now, the best bets to start outside are players many think fit the slot better: Burks and Downs. So do the Colts gamble with one of them taking over that role, one being a seventh-round rookie. Or do they turn to free agency now that comp pics won’t be affected? One option that could make sense is former San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings.

Is the second starting edge rusher currently on the roster?

One position the Colts chose not to target early in the draft was edge rusher. That, paired with their inability to add a starter at the position in free agency, is one of the biggest shocks of the offseason.

Their plan opposite Laiatu Latu remains a mystery. Two players are set to compete for that role on their roster. Those being Jaylahn Tuimoloau and Arden Key. But adding another option to the mix needs to at least be considered. Despite it being late April, there are some solid options still available that could make sense for the Colts to target.
