Colts hosting a breakout star from this past college football season at a position of need ahead of 2026 NFL Draft

The Colts are bringing in a breakout college football star who finished with double-digit sacks in 2025 for a pre-draft visit ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft.

The Indianapolis Colts accomplished their top two goals of the offseason by inking quarterback Daniel Jones and wide receiver Alec Pierce to new contracts. However, the team has not added a single new starter to their roster, even as they have watched multiple players leave in free agency.

One position where this stands out is at edge rusher. The team has seen Kwity Paye and Samson Ebukam sign elsewhere with the Las Vegas Raiders and Atlanta Falcons, but hasn’t added a single starting-caliber player in response. The Colts are playing a dangerous game there, after already having an average at best pass rush; on paper, they look significantly worse.

Even if they don’t make a major move in free agency or via trade, the 2026 NFL Draft is a way they could attack the position. And they have scheduled a breakout college football star to visit who would address their biggest weakness.

  • USC 2022: 2 games, 0 total tackles
  • USC 2023: 12 games, 4 sacks, 20 total tackles, 6 tackles for loss
  • Georgia Tech 2024: 12 games, 2.5 sacks, 34 total tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, 1 interception

Colts scheduled for a pre-draft visit with Texas Tech EDGE Romello Height

Texas Tech’s Romello Height only had 6.5 sacks in his five-year college career before the 2025 season with Texas Tech. He had spent time with three different schools, Auburn, USC, and Georgia Tech, and his career high in a year was four in 2023 with USC.

Well, he smashed that personal record in 2025, putting up his first-ever double-digit sack season with 10, and also set his career high with 11.5 tackles for loss and 38 total tackles. He got to play with a very talented Red Raider defensive line, with his teammate David Bailey set to be a top-10 pick, and Lee Hunter expected to hear their names called potentially in the first round as well.

Height fades into the background a bit when people talk about the Red Raider defense that also had linebacker Jacob Rodriguez, who received Heisman votes after his incredible season. But it is important to note that Height had a great season in his own right and will be looked at by teams that need to improve their defensive lines.

I like Height as a player, but I do think his best role at the next level is to develop into being a team’s second starting edge next to a star. The Colts feel like they have that right now in Laiatu Latu, and they certainly believe he could take that next step into that role himself, but as of right now, he isn’t there yet. So would the Colts really consider using their second-round pick on a player that doesn’t seem to have the upside to develop into what they are looking for?

My guess is probably not, and that Height would more likely be a target for the team if he falls into the third round or if they chose to trade back from pick 47 to gain more draft capital in a year where they don’t own a first-round pick. Height is an interesting player, but not one that I think would move the needle in the way the Colts need after choosing not to add one of the starting-caliber edge rushers in free agency.
