Colts sign 8-year veteran defensive lineman to add depth with star DT DeForest Buckner on IR
The Colts look to longtime NFL veteran to add depth on their defensive line.
The Indianapolis Colts reportedly had interest in signing two-time Super Bowl champion defensive tackle Khalen Saunders. Unfortunately, he signed with the New York Jets instead.
It seems the team has a backup plan in mind, though, as they moved quickly to sign a different DT. CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz reported that the Colts have signed eight-year veteran Chris Wormley.
Colts signed veteran DL Chris Wormley to add depth with DeForest Buckner on IR

The Baltimore Ravens selected Wormley in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft. He has been in the league for the past eight seasons on various teams. His most recent stop came in 2024, when he appeared in two games, reuniting with the Ravens, with whom he began his career from 2017 to 2019.
During his time in the NFL, he has played all over the defensive line. He’s been a nose tackle, an edge rusher on both sides of the line, as well as lining up as a 3T and 5T. This position flexibility, paired with his 87 games of NFL experience, could make him a decent depth piece for the Colts.
The Colts have multiple injuries on their defensive line, impacting their rotation. Most notably, their star DT Deforest Buckner is on IR with a neck injury. Wormley is only on the Colts’ practice squad right now, but I wouldn’t be shocked if the team elevates him to the active roster as early as this week vs. the Kansas City Chiefs.
