The Indianapolis Colts landed multiple players in the 2025 NFL Draft who have a solid chance to earn a spot in the team's short and long-term plans.
Many expect big things from their top picks, such as Tyler Warren and JT Tuimoloau, but the upcoming training camp could go a long way for some of their later picks, earning some more respect. One of which is the final selection of their rookie class, Hunter Wohler, who has a massive opportunity right in front of him.
Colts' 7th round pick Hunter Wohler has the chance to earn a larger role than first expected

The Colts drafted Wohler with the 232nd pick in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Wohler spent all four years of his college career at Wisconsin and was a key component of the Badgers' defense during his final two years at the university. He recorded 125 solo tackles and 191 total tackles during his final two years, as well as two interceptions (both coming in 2023). Many predicted he would hear his name called during the early stages of day three, potentially in the fourth or fifth round, with some even predicting he might sneak into day two as a third-round pick. Instead, he ended up having to wait till the final round, where the Colts snagged him.
Instantly, there was intrigue, though, with the Colts listing him as an LB despite him playing safety all four years in college. That went away quickly, though, with Wohler himself sharing that the opening plan is for him to compete at strictly safety before even considering a move to LB. Luckily for him, though, there's a big opportunity available for him at both spots. At safety, the third safety role is up for grabs with Wohler only having to compete with Rodney Thomas and potentially Daniel Scott. And if the stars align for him to also give LB a shot, the team's second-starring role opposite Zaire Franklin is up for grabs, with second-year Jaylin Carlies the favorite for the job at this time. For most seventh-round picks, just making the roster is their main goal of training camp, and that should certainly be Wohler's mindset as well. But one look at the Colts' roster and it becomes clear that he has a chance to earn a much bigger role than a typical seventh round pick. The Colts have shown they are willing to give a late draft pick a big role if they earn it. Just look at Jaylon Jones and what he's been able to do over the past two seasons.
