The Kansas City Chiefs have lost some 2026 NFL Draft capital after a slight trade up with the Cleveland Browns from No. 9 to No. 6 overall. The move up cost the Chiefs No. 9 and two additional picks, No. 74 in the third round and No. 148 in the fifth round.

At pick No. 6 overall, the Chiefs selected Mansoor Delane, CB, LSU.

Here’s a look at the remaining draft capital that Brett Veach has to work with.

Did the Chiefs overpay for a move up for Mansoor Delane?

Based on the trade logic of the A to Z Sports Mock Draft Simulator, the Chiefs did slightly overpay to move up to No. 6. Kansas City sent 2557 points and received 2031 points from the Browns in value for a net loss of 525 points. That said, if I offer the trade to the Chiefs when Cleveland is on the clock, I don’t need to force the trade.

The big question from there is, would Delane have been available had the Chiefs waited until pick No. 9? If you’re into probabilities, ESPN’s Draft Day Predictor tool had a 90% probability that Delane would’ve been available at pick No. 9. There was only a 2% chance that Delane would be available within the next 10 picks following pick No. 6, per the A to Z Sports Draft Simulator.

All that said, the Chiefs have a pretty good history of first-round cornerbacks during Andy Reid’s tenure as head coach. In 2015, the Chiefs took Marcus Peters with the 18th overall pick. In 2022, the Chiefs moved up and took Trent McDuffie at pick No. 21.

The other thing about this trade that should sit well with Chiefs fans is that a move up didn’t cost Kansas City their other first-round pick at No. 29 overall. That pick was the one acquired in the Trent McDuffie trade with the Los Angeles Rams.
