Chiefs’ win over Commanders was Jaylon Moore’s worst game yet with Kansas City, but what comes next has the left tackle excited
Jaylon Moore left Week 8’s win over the Commanders excited despite having his worst game yet in Kansas City.
Kansas City Chiefs backup LT Jaylon Moore is looking to learn from the Week 8 win over the Washington Commanders.
While the team notched a dominant 28-7 victory, the game wasn’t exactly Moore’s finest performance. It was just his third game as a starter for the team, and early in the game, Moore surrendered a sack on Patrick Mahomes and multiple pressures to Commanders pass-rusher Jacob Martin. Speaking to reporters after the game, Chiefs HC Andy Reid gave credit where credit is due and also discussed Moore’s performance.
“(Commanders Head Coach) Dan’s (Quinn) got a good defensive front there,” Reid said. “(Defensive Line Coach Darryl) Tapp’s done a nice job with that crew, coaching them up. I think he (Jaylon Moore) came in probably a little cautious right at the beginning there, and then he just tuned it up. You have got to give them (Commanders) credit. They’ve got a good front.”
Despite the struggles in Week 8, Moore came out on the other side of the game excited for what comes next for him. It’s not just about the challenge of an important Week 9 game against the Buffalo Bills, but finding a way to bounce back and get better from this momentary hiccup.

Moore has been a godsend to the Chiefs during LT Josh Simmons’ absence, but he hasn’t been flawless. He allowed just as many pressures and sacks in Week 8 against the Commanders as he did in each of the two weeks prior combined.

Asked about his performance following the Week 8 win, Moore was already thinking about the different things he could do to get better moving forward.
“I got a lot of things that I feel like I can work on and get better at, but that’s the exciting part for me,” Moore told 810 Sports Radio’s Steven St. John following the game. “I get to get back in the film room, get back in the lab, and continue to work. Continue to climb that hill. Try to get better.”
Asked whether it was just a matter of getting more repetitions, Moore reiterated that diagnosing what went wrong and fixing it is the fun part for him.
“Yeah, I would say so,” Moore explained. “And just visualizing and seeing what’s wrong and trying to tweak things. But that’s the fun part.”
In Week 9 in Buffalo, Moore will face a big test again. This time, lining up across from the likes of Bills edge rushers Greg Rousseau and Joey Bosa. The pair has combined for 5.5 sacks so far in the 2025 NFL season.
