Rams WRs Puka Nacua and Davante Adams can each set new NFL records on Thursday, including one that would erase Cooper Kupp
Week 5’s matchup against the 49ers could be a memorable one.
The Los Angeles Rams’ offense is off to a hot start in 2025, and wide receivers Puka Nacua and Davante Adams have been a huge part of it.
Nacua is fresh off of winning NFC Offensive Player of the Week, and Adams has caught a touchdown pass in each of his last three games. As the Rams enter their Week 5 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday Night Football, both Nacua and Adams will have the chance to make NFL history.
Puka Nacua can set NFL record for most receptions by a player in his team’s first five games of a season
Nacua currently has 42 receptions on the season, by the far the most in the league. If he can record eight against San Francisco on Thursday night, he will pass his former teammate Cooper Kupp for the most catches by a player in his team’s first five games of a season.
Kupp set the record of 49 during the 2022 season season. That was coming off the heels of his historic 2021 season, and he was having another big-time year before sustaining a season-ending high ankle sprain. If Nacua breaks Kupp’s record, that means he will also break the following one.
Puka Nacua can become the fourth player ever with at least seven receptions in nine consecutive games
Nacua has caught at least seven passes dating all the way back to Week 13 of the 2024 season. If he does it again on Thursday, he will join Antonio Brown (14), Stefon Diggs (9), and Kupp (11) as the fourth player to accomplish the feat.
Neither record will come easy for Nacua, as the 49ers’ defense ranks sixth against the pass so far in 2025. However, Nacua is at the top of his game right now, and has been unstoppable regardless of the matchup.
Davante Adams can tie Terrell Owens for the third-most touchdown receptions ever in primetime games
Adams has caught 33 touchdown passes in 48 career primetime games (7 p.m. ET start time or later). That trails only Owens (34), Randy Moss (44), and Jerry Rice (46) for the most ever.
All three of those WRs are in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and Adams could be well on his way there also. If Adams doesn’t accomplish the feat in this game, he’ll have three more primetime matchups later this season to get it done, permitting he remains healthy.
