Myles Garrett trade could create domino effect that would bring Aaron Donald out of retirement and back with the Rams
The Rams have stolen the show once again thanks to the Myles Garrett trade they just pulled off. Just thinking aloud, but is there a chance the move brings Aaron Donald out of retirement for one more shot at a Super Bowl ring?
The Los Angeles Rams are used to making waves throughout the NFL and Les Snead and Co. have done just that once again thanks to Monday’s blockbuster Myles Garrett trade.
There could be an unintended reverberating effect, too: This is the kind of move that would bring Rams legend and future Hall of Famer Aaron Donald out of retirement.
What are the actual chances of that happening? Let’s talk about it.
The Myles Garrett trade could realistically bring Aaron Donald back into the fold with the Rams
The Rams are already Super Bowl contenders and are actually the top favorite to win it all after a year where they fell just short of reaching the Super Bowl. Even with the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC West, many consider them the best team heading into the 2026 season.
That alone is a good enough reason to come out of retirement, but the logic behind the decision increases exponentially after the Myles Garrett trade.
There’s plenty of reason to believe Donald has plenty left in the tank, even if he just turned 35 years old the other day. Ahead of his final season in 2023, he was quoted saying he’s in the “best shape” of his life after dealing with an ankle injury that cost him six games in 2022.
“I’m coming off of ankle surgery this season, so I’m trying to keep my body in top shape, pretty much training Monday through Friday and sometimes Saturdays,” Donald said back then. “I’m in the weight room, conditioning, making sure that I’m able to move how I need to move. And honestly, I’m in the best shape of my life. I feel like my strength is where it needs to be. I’m trying to stay away from a lot of fried food, sugars, and things that can cause inflammation, and eat a lot of protein.”
He didn’t retire due to injury or poor play, either. He actually retired in large part because he was burnt out with all the preparation that came with being one of the greatest players of all time, which is easy to understand.
Well, two years off can really help with that. Especially with Garrett now in the fold.
Honestly, I’d say there’s a 50/50 chance the Myles Garrett trade creates a reunion between Donald and the Rams. It’s that big of a deal and if he can cash out with a quick Super Bowl ring, it’s more than worth his time.
