A 2025 glow up for another AFC wide receiver paves the road for one of the Miami Dolphins’ young receivers to break out this season

A wide receiver glow up elsewhere in the AFC from last season is the best case scenario for one of the Miami Dolphins’ many young wide receivers.

The Miami Dolphins lost plenty of proven talent at wide receiver this offseason. Left in their place? Several young, unproven receivers who hope to leave a mark.

Malik Washington is one of them. He enters his third NFL season with a role that could expand dramatically, and his best comparable in the league just enjoyed a breakout season of his own elsewhere in the NFL — while playing in his own third NFL season in 2025.

The Parker Washington leap in Jacksonville paves the road for Malik Washington’s 2026 season with the Miami Dolphins

That player is the Jacksonville Jaguars’ Parker Washington. Washington went from a return specialist to an intriguing depth player through his first two players — but logged over 800 receiving yards in 2025. He, like Malik Washington, is a smaller player in stature who offers the same dense build and physicality that the Dolphins’ receiver has flashed in what was an exceptionally limited role.

The profiles are strikingly similar. Washington doesn’t carry a big-time physical measurable set, either. He’s compact, tough, and built to win with quickness and effort after the catch. And he’s walking into his third NFL season, the same inflection point where Parker Washington turned heads.

Both players are under 5-foot-10. Their impact was carved in the return game first. Shoot, they were drafted one apart in their respective drafts. Malik Washington was drafted 184th overall in 2024. Parker Washington? 185th overall in 2023.

Parallels run deep

Like Malik Washington, Parker Washington’s role was predominantly in the shorter areas of the field. But he illustrated great chemistry with quarterback Trevor Lawrence and saw expanded targets lead to a strong season of production. With different athletes to play on the perimeter, Parker Washington saw nearly 50% of his targets come within 9 yards of the line of scrimmage. He took a 50% snap share from the slot in 2025, too.

Malik Washington generally offers the same ability. His target rate saw two-thirds of balls come within five yards of the line of scrimmage in 2025. Malik took 48% of his snaps from the slot. And he actually averaged one yard more after the catch per reception.

If you’re looking for the blueprint for Malik Washington to answer the bell, exploring how Parker Washington’s game evolved in Jacksonville is a great place to start.
