One NFL Draft expert did not shy away from a lofty parallel for new Miami Dolphins wide receiver Chris Bell
One of the biggest experts in the NFL Draft space did not shy away from a lofty parallel for new Miami Dolphins wide receiver Chris Bell.
The intrigue around the Miami Dolphins’ wide receiver room is plentiful.
Targets are wide open for the taking. There’s no shortage of young players eligible to seize a big role. Skepticism is readily available for the team’s top wide receiver drafted in the 2026 NFL Draft, former Texas Tech pass catcher Caleb Douglas. The team’s second wide receiver drafted, Louisville’s Chris Bell? He’s got plenty of fans. He just so happens to also be coming off of a torn ACL, which is why he slipped to Miami at the end of Round 3. But the projection for Bell remains optimistically high — including from one of the best NFL Draft experts in the game.
NFL Draft expert Greg Cosell didn’t shy away from a lofty parallel for Miami Dolphins wide receiver Chris Bell
“Bell is…one of those guys, he’s straight line fast and he’s powerful. I mean, in some ways he’s built like an AJ Brown. He has that kind of body type. 6-foot-2, physical, and he can run. I mean that’s the thing he he could run away from the defense. There are some plays where he caught slants or glance route routes, I mean you see him this past year a 35 yard touchdown against the University of Miami was just a great snapshot of what he is.
He’s a he’s a little rigid. He’s a little stiff, but straight line, he can really run. And he’s big and physical…it just changes how you have to play and what you’re big and physical…you could make the argument that AJ Brown is a little stiff in his hips, too. I mean, he’s not he’s not loose and fluid the way you think of smaller receivers.”
Greg Cosell, NFL Draft Expert
On the Ross Tucker Football Podcast
Here’s the thing about Greg Cosell. He’s not one for the spectacle of commentary. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Greg several times before, including sharing the aisle on a flight to Indianapolis for the NFL Combine this year. He’s a sensational encyclopedia of knowledge and perspective on the league.
So when he invokes the name AJ Brown (Terrell Owens was also mentioned in the conversation), it should mean something.
Now, did Cosell compare him as a whole to AJ Brown? No, of course not. But he did liken Bell’s physical stature and movement skills to the former Pro Bowler. It’s still meaningful. And there are plenty of other big-bodied wide receivers that could have warranted a shout out. Cosell still chose to go with Brown. Whether or not Bell touches that stratosphere as a player is still very much in question. But the biggest question that the rookie wide receiver needs to address is a much simpler one: when can we expect to see him on the field?
