The Miami Dolphins‘ battle at cornerback this season is going to be an intense one.

The established names in the room are limited. But between first-round draft choice Chris Johnson, JuJu Brents, Darrell Baker Jr., Jason Marshall, Storm Duck, Alex Austin, Ethan Bonner, Miles Battle, and others? There’s no shortage of options for someone to emerge. Recently, Baker Jr. sat in on an interview with the Miami Dolphins’ Travis Wingfield and talked a little bit about his preparation. It could be the exact advantage someone needs to win a job in 2026.

Miami Dolphins cornerback Darrell Baker Jr. talks about his preparation and approach

“I (would) say those wins start on Monday. Right after the game, I’m right back in the film room. I’m trying to get as much information as possible before we even touch Wednesday’s practice. So I might even just text the coach ‘what we got going on? What do you think about this or that?’. You know, I feel like we could throw ideas at each other, that’s going to make us (better).”

Baker Jr. has started 19 of 34 games for the Tennessee Titans over the course of the last two seasons. In total, it’s been 1,352 defensive snaps over the last two seasons. Some of those opportunities came amid the Titans trying to push him out of the lineup. You can’t help but respect the tenacity and even-keeled approach to continue to play through those dynamics and be ready to step back onto the field in a moment’s notice. One thing that is evident about Baker Jr. when he speaks? He wants to get better. He may already be good enough to start for the 2026 Miami Dolphins but he’s someone I wouldn’t bet against being in the lineup either way.
