The Dolphins just lost a young breakout candidate for the season at the exact moment his role was expanding — and the trend is impossible to ignore
It turns out to be more of the same for JuJu Brents, unfortunately.
Miami Dolphins cornerback JuJu Brents appeared to be in line for a sizable audition throughout the final half of the team’s 2025 season. Brents, who started his first game of the year in Miami’s 30-13 Week 10 upset win over the Buffalo Bills, was back in the lineup for the Dolphins against the Washington Commanders this past week after a strong performance and the ongoing injury to veteran cornerback Rasul Douglas.
But as has been the case far too often for Brents in his NFL career, his body has betrayed him. Brents left the team’s 16-13 win over the Commanders early with a foot injury — and now, his audition for a long-term future in Miami has come to an unceremonious and quick end. The most troublesome part is that this is nothing new.
Dolphins cornerback JuJu Brents’ stint as a starter proved to be short-lived as he suffers season-ending foot injury
“A lot of people were shocked to see the Colts move on from Brents during roster cutdown. He was a draft crush for so many in the draft community due to his elite size and aggressiveness at the CB position. And with him being an Indianapolis native, he quickly became a player Colts fans rallied behind. Sadly, injuries continued to pile up, and the Colts lost belief that he would ever develop into a legit contributor for their team. During his time with the Colts, Brents dealt with multiple injuries. And it wasn’t just one area of concern; the variance of injuries was honestly astounding.
“While with the Colts, Brents suffered ankle, hamstring, knee, groin, quad, wrist, and even a nose injury. Now with the Dolphins, he adds a season-ending foot injury to the list. I hope he finds a way to turn his career around and figure out how to remain healthy and stay on the field. Because, as Dolphins fans saw, he began to flash this season, he has a ton of untapped talent still in the tank.”

CB JuJu Brents’ troublesome injury history continues in Miami
- November 2025: Season-ending foot injury
- Training camp 2025: Hamstring injury
- 2024: Spent nearly the full season on injured reserve with a knee injury
- 2023: Quadriceps injury
Brents has the 2026 season remaining on his contract. Given his draft pedigree and natural talent, it’s hard to envision the Dolphins kicking him to the curb this offseason. But the track record is, unfortunately, well-established. The Dolphins’ need at cornerback is a little more pressing now, as this is the reinforcement Miami needs to know they cannot afford to put too many eggs into this basket for 2026.
Brents, who is expected to be fully healthy for 2026, will now go into a contract year next season, hoping to have his best season yet to establish a market for his services on a second contract in the NFL. Simply staying on the field would go a long way, but those hopes (and Miami’s of finding a gem starter) are dashed for this season.
