One of the Miami Dolphins’ most important units isn’t letting summer break get in the way of collecting extra reps together
The summer break for NFL players is typically a chance to get away. That’s not the case for one of the Miami Dolphins’ most important units.
The Miami Dolphins‘ offense in 2026 will likely go as far as their offensive line group is able to carry them.
Amid plenty of new up on the roster, the Dolphins do return four starters from last year’s offensive line group — plus a first round draft choice in Kadyn Proctor. And while Mike McDaniel is no longer in charge, the Dolphins are in a Shanahan-adjacent scheme with new offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik. The terminology should be familiar. It makes last year’s reps valuable for Miami. But this group, we’re finding out, isn’t content to just bank on that overlap. Even now, in the summer offseason, the Miami Dolphins’ offensive line is grinding it out together at the team facility. We know this thanks to a new interview with left tackle Patrick Paul.
The Miami Dolphins offensive line unit has squeezed plenty of extra reps together this summer
“Everyone’s still kinda (here)…It was kind of like when I first got here as a rookie, I just kind of saw that that’s what the O-line did. So that was the culture before I even got there. So just seeing (the starters): (Austin Jackson), (Aaron Brewer), you (Terron Armstead). Everyone’s kind of staying down here (in the offseason). I was like, ‘Okay, this is definitely this might be the wave.’ And then, you can’t beat it down here. Our facility? You’ve been in there. It’s top class. Top class. You got everything you need down there, and you can’t replicate that heat. So, I can’t go to like somewhere else and train and then expect to come back and be used to the heat.”
— Miami Dolphins offensive tackle Patrick Paul to Terron Armstead on ‘The Set’
Former Miami Dolphins offensive tackle Terron Armstead has made a wonderful transition from playing to media. It’s been as smooth as Miami’s transition from Armstead to Paul at left tackle this past season. And on Armstead’s ‘The Set’, Paul shared that the Dolphins’ projected starters up front have been in the trenches together at the team facility all summer. That includes right tackle Austin Jackson, center Aaron Brewer, and Paul. But it also includes second-year guard Jonah Savaiinaea and rookie Kadyn Proctor.
“Jonah (Savaiinaea), we were just working out today. (Kadyn Proctor), he might be in Alabama for a little bit, but he’s definitely been here,” said Paul.
All the reps this group can get matter. The sum of an offensive line’s whole is worth more than the individual parts. That’s developed with chemistry. And chemistry can only be build up over time. Along with reps. Which this group seems to be happy to collect — even in their time off.
