The Miami Dolphins now have one less thing to do during their summer vacation

The Miami Dolphins, along with the rest of the NFL, were reportedly set to make a trip to Texas halfway through their summer break next month. The objective of the trip? To attend a scheduled Pro Day for maligned quarterback prospect Brendan Sorsby.

After a gambling addiction landed Sorsby into rehab and cost him his remaining eligibility, Sorsby opted to jump to the NFL’s Supplemental Draft. And, in preparation for that process, he and his camp scheduled a Pro Day in Texas. But those plans are now on ice. Sorsby’s application for the Supplemental Draft was, emphatically, denied on Tuesday.

“Under our Collective Bargaining Agreement, the League retains sole discretion to determine whether it is appropriate to conduct a Supplemental Draft in any given year. The League has not conducted such a draft for several years and, prior to your submission, the League had no plans to do so this year, as no other player has sought entry.

Your Petition—filed three business days before the deadline, without any supporting information or documentation, and only after abandoning your recent litigation efforts to avoid NCAA sanctions—does not provide a basis for the League to alter those plans. The issues presented by your Petition are too significant, and too closely tied to the League’s core integrity interests, to permit meaningful review within the timeline presented.”

Woof. The NFL did not hold back on their letter to Sorsby and his camp. And it means, pending some potential fast acting court filings (and a judgement in short order) by Sorsby’s representation, that he’s going to be locked out of the league until the 2027 NFL Draft.

For the Miami Dolphins, you can go ahead and cross that event off of July’s ‘To Do List’. The NFL has left very little to the imagination regarding Sorsby’s current standing and the status of his application. There was already plenty of muddy water in the moral discussion around Sorby’s conduct. But now the NFL has removed the consideration altogether — it sounds like there will be no Pro Day road trip to take at all.
