The Miami Dolphins did the thing. They’ve traded WR Jaylen Waddle.

Miami entered this offseason with a new regime stepping into the fray, eager to impress their own identity on the organization. Congratulations, Jon-Eric Sullivan, you’ve done exactly that. After a big signing at quarterback and a modest free agency crop of low-value signings, the Dolphins have shaken up the NFL landscape. Wide receiver Jaylen Waddle? He’s a Denver Bronco.

Dolphins trade WR Jaylen Waddle to the Broncos for a pile of picks

The trade deadline rumors have come to life. Miami ends up getting a handsome, handsome haul for Waddle and the team’s pick at No. 111 overall — they’re getting picks no. 30, 94, and 130 overall in return for Waddle’s services.

The domino effect on Miami’s offense is fascinating. They’re going to have quarterback Malik Willis stepping into the fray and throwing to a slew of rookie contract players like Malik Washington and Theo Wease, plus veteran receivers like Tutu Atwell and Jalen Tolbert — cheap signings in free agency. It is probably safe to assume that Miami will spend a premium draft choice on a wide receiver at some point along the way as well.

Waddle becomes just the latest top pick from the previous regime to be shuttled out the door. He finished his career in Miami with 373 receptions, 5,039 yards, and 26 receiving touchdowns. Waddle also briefly held the NFL record for most receptions by a rookie in NFL history with 104 catches during his 2021 debut season with the Dolphins. His peak statistically came in 2022, when he led the league in yards per catch (18.1) on 75 receptions and posted 1,382 yards and 8 total scores.

Now, he’ll join a contending Broncos team with the Dolphins start their offensive identity from scratch.
