The 2026 Miami Dolphins season is the infancy of a new build. Accordingly, the general approach to roster-building should be a “no stone left unturned” mindset.

That includes positions of need and also perceived positions of strength. We’re talking about starting on the ground level here — the more depth you have at every position the better. And with limited resources, you’re best off getting creative and seeing if you can steal a few future contributors the unorthodox way. Which brings us to the latest reported free agent that the Miami Dolphins have kicked the tires on. Former Las Vegas Raiders running back Zamir White.

White has struggled to be productive thus far throughout his four-year NFL career. He’s averaged 3.7 yards per carry throughout his rookie contract with the Raiders. This, despite being a buzzy draft prospect out of Georgia. Initially drafted in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, White showed flashes in 2023 but has been unproductive for the last two years.

That makes him cheap. Which is an attractive quality for Miami. But his struggles may also be a byproduct of a bad system in Las Vegas — which could mean he’s a possible steal in the right circumstances.

Consider this: in White’s four seasons with the Las Vegas Raiders, the team ranks 31st in rushing EPA, T-32nd in yards per rush (3.9), and ranks 30th in yards before contact per rush. Thats across a four year sample size! The Raiders have flat out stunk at running the football the last four years no matter who is in the backfield.

That doesn’t ease the concerns over a 3.7 yards per rush rate for White. But it does help contextualize his production and offer some glimmer of hope that a better situation could yield better results. Shoot, the Raiders drafted Ashton Jeanty 6th overall in the 2025 NFL Draft and he averaged…you guessed it. 3.7 yards per rush last season.

So you may hear me say Zamir White checks the boxes for the 2026 Miami Dolphins and chuckle at the idea of an unproductive running back signing with a team that has low public expectations. But in reality, White is a viable scratch off ticket. He’s 215 pounds and ran a 4.40s flat 40-yard dash at the 2022 NFL Combine. He’s high on potential, low on mileage, low on cost, and low on risk.

And for those reasons, yes. He’d be a perfect fit for the 2026 Miami Dolphins.
