The one thing the 2026 Miami Dolphins DON’T need to add to the roster might surprise you
Call me crazy. But there’s one thing that the 2026 Miami Dolphins firmly do NOT need this summer.
You can call it a hot take. I don’t care. But I do, emphatically, believe that there’s one thing the Miami Dolphins‘ offseason game plan the rest of the way does NOT need.
You can make a case for some more depth on the edge. Another veteran safety would make a lot of sense, too. Perhaps another position-flexible offensive lineman, if you could find one, would make some sense. One thing this team does not need? Another cornerback.
The Miami Dolphins’ cornerback situation has what it needs (for 2026)

Miami spent a first-round draft choice on San Diego State cornerback Chris Johnson. He will, in all likelihood, catapult to the top of the depth chart immediately. Team leadership has indicated he will offer the Dolphins positional flexibility and could kick inside into the nickel when the team goes with three cornerbacks at once.
But consider the rest of this room. Is Miami missing proven starting talent? Sure. But they’re not lacking in the way of options.
2025 fifth-round draft choice Jason Marshall Jr. could benefit from resuming play outside on the perimeter. Free agent signing Darrell Baker Jr. has been a player that’s constantly found his way into the lineup in recent years. JuJu Brents showed great promise in 2025 with the Miami Dolphins before a season-ending injury. All three appear to be aggressive, physical fits for head coach Jeff Hafley.
There are other lottery tickets at play here, including Alex Austin, Miles Battle, and Storm Duck. Austin has a predominant special teams background that could hold value for a 53-man roster. Now, I’m not a math guy, but that’s seven names before we even acknowledge Ethan Bonner, AJ Green, and Marco Wilson.
Yes, these names could be upgraded upon. But is that REALLY the point of the 2026 season?
This leadership ground has preached building a foundation the right way and that they understand this process will take some time. What are the Miami Dolphins going to do? Sign a 30-year old veteran free agent to come in and play over all these candidates to be long term answers? For what reason? To what end? It doesn’t make any sense. And instead, if we’re willing to be honest about what this 2026 season is all about for the Miami Dolphins, I would say the team has all the cornerbacks they need. To quote the film ‘Godzilla’: “Let them fight!”
