There’s an NFL Draft rumor brewing that may be an interesting option for the Miami Dolphins
There’s a potentially large NFL Draft move brewing that may be of interest to the Miami Dolphins amid their need at wide receiver.
The Miami Dolphins’ 2026 NFL Draft outlook is complicated.
There’s no shortage of possible targets. There’s the possibility of a trade down. And, of course, Miami has no shortage of needs — this team can go just about anywhere with their picks and it’d be understandable. But some moves can’t be predicted in the NFL Draft, including a possible opportunity that is rumored to be available to teams picking at the end of the 2026 NFL Draft’s first round. That group does, indeed, include the Miami Dolphins.
Jacksonville Jaguars WR Brian Thomas Jr. could potentially be available via trade and the Miami Dolphins linger as a possible fit

Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio has outlined a rumor that the Jacksonville Jaguars may be cooking up a trade into the back end of the first-round of tonight’s 2026 NFL Draft. The Jaguars’ own first round pick? It is currently scheduled to be made by the Cleveland Browns after last year’s trade up for WR/CB Travis Hunter.
The Jaguars first pick comes at 56th overall, nearly a full round behind where the Miami Dolphins’ second pick. That’s a big drop. But if the right (or more accurately, wrong) players are left on the board for Miami, it is interesting to wonder if they could be a possible partner for a Jaguars splash.
The “other” piece of the trade for Jacksonville is just as compelling as the second-round pick. Former first round wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. is rumored to be on the block.
“As the draft approaches, we’re told that the Jaguars may be trying to lay the foundation for a potential trade into the bottom of round one. The potential bait could include receiver Brian Thomas Jr.
Thomas has been a consistent subject of trade chatter. Last month, G.M. James Gladstone called such talk “fraudulent.””

Components needed for Miami interest?
Let’s make no bones about it. The Miami Dolphins do, in fact, have a need at wide receiver. Thomas Jr. is just one year removed for posting nearly 1,300 yards as a rookie pass catcher. Last season? Not as great; it was a frustrating and disappointing encore. Why Jacksonville is looking to offload a talented player halfway through his rookie contract must also be vetted.
But say the Dolphins hate the board at No. 30 overall when they come on the clock. Is it compelling to wonder about possibly moving back into the 50s and adding Thomas Jr. to a thin wide receiver room at the same time? Yes. Yes it it.
Thomas Jr. has two years left on his rookie deal with about $5 million in total compensation owed. Miami could easily accommodate his contract. The questions are: how serious is Jacksonville about making the splash, how much does Miami like Thomas Jr., and who needs to be off the board for Jon-Eric Sullivan and company to consider exploring this possible move?
We’ll find out tonight.
