The Miami Dolphins seized the moment with their waiver claims on Monday, landing seven new players for their 53-man roster. Dolphins general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan smiled when asked about that volume of new additions and he thought they’d actually get that many players awarded to them.
“I did not. But I’m glad we did,” he said. But a new available player tonight should have Miami reconsidering one of their Monday commitments — as there’s a compelling quarterback freshly available on the waiver wire for Tuesday.

The Dallas Cowboys waived Joe Milton on Monday amid their own roster shuffle, shaking loose a rare tools quarterback who is now available for any team to pluck in the waiver order. As a reminder to the waiver wire process, you don’t move to the back of the line with a successful claim. So Miami still ranks 11th in the queue, giving them a puncher’s chance to land any player they choose to claim.
Milton would be, in my opinion, a far superior option to Brady Cook as a developmental competitor within the quarterback room. Cook is a plus athlete in his own right — he’s 6-foot-2, 215 pounds and posted 80th percentile or better in the 40-yard dash, 10-yard split, vertical leap, standing broad jump, and short shuttle at the 2025 NFL Combine.
But Milton is a mountain at 6-foot-5, 235 pounds. He carries a cannon on his shoulder for a passing arm. And he’s got some NFL seasoning beyond the reps that Cook collected last season playing for *squints* the New York Jets. Yes, Cook has more career pass attempts, but Milton has more rare tools and exposures within multiple NFL offenses.
Milton entered the league so raw that medium rare would call it “moo-ing”. I appreciate the traits that Cook offers — but the tape last year was rough. Milton’s profile is more rare. And, to me, that makes him more enticing. The Dolphins will have a chance to agree or disagree when the daily waiver claims process tomorrow.
