The Vikings released an unofficial depth chart ahead of the Week One matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

After comparing that depth chart with what transpired yesterday, I guess they call it "unofficial," for a reason. Brian Asamoah was as a starting inside linebacker next to Jordan Hicks.

However, Asamoah played just two snaps against the Bucs.

Asamoah was a non-factor in the opener, being behind the UDFA Ivan Pace Jr. Troy Dye also played two snaps at ILB and this was after being banged up at practice last week.

Pace responded to the big opportunity by leading the team with six tackles.

When asked after the game, Kevin O'Connell explained that a rotation was the plan, but he'd "have to take a look at" the snap counts.

“Yeah, I know the plan was there was going to be a little bit of a rotation there, so I’ll have to look at it," O'Connell explained. "Keeping up with the snap counts play-to-play, maybe one day I’ll be able to do that. But I’ll take a look at it, and I think we feel really good about kind of a three-man grouping right there.”

Overall, the defense played well enough for the Vikings to win. The team allowed just 242 yards, which is the lowest total allowed in a game since 2020.

With the Vikings playing on Thursday night this week, it's unlikely we will see any wholesale changes on either side of the ball. I would expect Asamoah to be worked in more frequently, but Pace will likely get another chance to perform in Philadelphia.

This is a prime example of why you cannot put much stock into "unofficial" depth charts.
