A.J. Brown has been with the New England Patriots for less than three weeks, but he’s already made quite an impression. Beyond making plays in limited reps during OTAs, Brown has been delivering quote-worthy media moments.

His latest remarks show how much Brown likes his new signal caller, and it may come as a subtle shot at others he’s worked with, or more specifically, the last quarterback he had.

AJ Brown praises Drake Maye

“The talent speaks for itself,” Brown said of Drake Maye via video from Mark Daniels at Patriots OTAs. He can make any throw. But, I think what’s more impressive to me is that he knows what he’s doing. To be that young and to understand the defense, and to understand every little check, the hots, the blitz, all those things, so young and so fast it’s very impressive.”

“And so, I really admire that. He knows what he’s talking about. He demands everybody else to know as well. And he’s a true leader. He’s a true leader of men and it’s crazy to see at a young age. He’s a true leader of men.”

What was A.J. Brown really saying?

A.J. Brown’s two primary quarterbacks before his welcoming to New England were Ryan Tannehill in Tennessee and Jalen Hurts in Philly. While this felt like a shot at the latter of those two signal callers, there is no doubt that Brown and Maye have gotten off to a strong start.

The two have been seen repeatedly hooking up during OTAs, and Maye now has a certified WR No. 1 in the prime of his career for the first time since he entered the NFL.

You can say what you want about Brown when it comes to the antics, but the truth is that he’s seen what it takes to win at the highest level, evidenced by his All-Pro accolades and the Super Bowl ring on his finger. So to see that he’s already widely impressed with Drake Maye, well, that’s a good sign for everyone involved.
