Philadelphia Eagles go against what fans are asking for when it comes to starting CB2
Adoree Jackson is getting another chance.
The Philadelphia Eagles named Adoree Jackson the starting cornerback opposite Quinyon Mitchell to open the 2025 NFL season.
But just one week in, serious doubts are already emerging about Jackson’s performance in the team’s 24-20 win over the Dallas Cowboys.
Jackson was targeted seven times by Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, allowing five completions for 103 yards. Three of those receptions went to Dallas star CeeDee Lamb, including two crucial third-down conversions that helped the Cowboys stay in the game.
Nick Sirianni stands up for Adoree’ Jackson
Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni was well aware of Jackson’s mistakes after watching the tape, but chose not to single him out, calling out the team as a whole instead.
“Obviously, we gave up the three scoring drives early on in the game, and it’s– this is the greatest team sport there is, so to say, ‘Hey, this happened because of this player,’ it’s not realistic in the game of football. I thought he had moments where he had good challenges, and obviously, he gave up a couple of plays also,” Sirianni said. “It’s never, ‘Hey, this happened because of this.’ Never in this game, never in this sport, but again, like everybody in that football game, you had some positives, you had some negatives. That’s every player in that game, that’s every coach in that game. That’s that game itself. “
Eagles fans everywhere are asking for Jackson to get benched, but it looks like he’s going to get a chance to rebound, as defensive coordinator Vic Fangio isn’t giving up on him just yet, and plans to start him against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 2.
“He has to make sure he’s a master technician and not let his technique falter,” Fangio said of Jackson’s mistakes. “They have good receivers, and if you don’t go about your job the right way from a technique standpoint, those good receivers become impossible to cover.”
We’ll see if Jackson can hold things down for the Birds against Chiefs’ Xavier Worthy, Hollywood Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster on Sunday. If he can’t, then Week 3 at CB2 could look a lot different.
