Eagles rookie WR Makai Lemon just received the ultimate blessing from a Philadelphia legend at the quarterback position
Makai Lemon had a big Thursday, including being the first in his class to make major news, as well as figuring out his number situation for the 2026 season.
The Philadelphia Eagles made waves when not only did they draft Makai Lemon, but they jumped the Pittsburgh Steelers to do so, making for a national headline, and frankly, embarrassing their cross-state rival in their own backyard.
And while Lemon was drafted just last week, he’s already making noise both contractually and with his wardrobe.
Makai Lemon Facts
- Lemon signed with USC after being named a 2023 Under Armour All-American.
- Lemon is a California native.
- Lemon was on the phone with the Steelers when the Eagles were trying to draft him.
Makai Lemon to be first Eagle to wear No.9 jersey since Nick Foles
The man who has a statue in the city of Philadelphia, Nick Foles, has signed off on letting rookie WR Makai Lemon wear his famous No.9, which was de facto retired since his departure. It shows not only what the Eagles think of Lemon, but what Foles thinks of him. As it turns out, that wasn’t the only big news of the day for Lemon, however.
Makai Lemon becomes the first first-rounder to sign his contract
It is unusually early to see any player who was drafted, but especially first-rounders, sign their contract, but it further proves that Lemon and his representation are all business, all the time.
What are Eagles really getting from Makai Lemon
“From a physical tools perspective, there is nothing dynamic about Lemon. He is, however, an outstanding wide receiver prospect who understands how to win in multiple ways. Lemon is a detailed route runner who clearly understands how to set up defenders and attack blind spots.”
“There is a strong argument that he is the best overall route runner in the class. Lemon has also shown the ability to win both after the catch and in the air, which is impressive for his size. Underrate Lemon if you’d like, but there’s a good chance he eventually becomes one of the top slot receivers in the NFL. The film is arguably the cleanest of any wide receiver in the class.” – Ryan Roberts, A to Z Sports
