Eagles: 3 UDFAs with best chance to make roster

The Eagles have had a fantastic offseason. With little cap space and a laundry list of impending free agents, it seemed likely that the team would lose several key contributors.
Instead, the team was able to retain elite defenders like Darius Slay, James Bradberry, Fletcher Cox, and Brandon Graham due to some slick cap maneuvering.
Then, the Eagles nailed the 2023 NFL Draft, with many analysts declaring the class one of the best in the league. To go for three-for-three, the Eagles have also nailed undrafted free agent signings. Today, I want to take a look at the UDFAs with the best chance to make the roster.
Eli Ricks, CB, Eagles
It surprised many around the league that Ricks went undrafted. While the corner's raw talent is undeniable, it seemed that questions about his speed and relative inexperience proved to be too much.
Ricks was a five-star recruit out of IMG Academy in Florida. Initially, Ricks committed to the LSU Tigers and would play two seasons in Baton Rouge. Before the 2022 season, Ricks transferred to Alabama.
Ricks just did not get on the field much. The corner never played more than nine games in a season and never had more than 20 tackles in a season. There are concerns about Ricks' breakaway speed, and he could struggle with explosive receivers in the NFL.
However, the Eagles need youth and upside in the secondary. Behind Bradberry and Slay, there is not much depth to speak of. A high-ceiling player like Ricks would be perfect sitting behind the elite veteran corners in Philadelphia.
Jadon Haselwood, WR, Arkansas
Haselwood is a player that would've benefitted from another year in school. After being used sparingly for three seasons at Oklahoma, Haselwood transferred to Arkansas for the 2022 season.
The receiver would go on to have his best season, finishing 2022 with 59 catches for 702 yards and three TDs. His 6'2", 215 lb frame and status as a former five-star recruit hint at an intriguing upside, but the production has never been there. Haselwood rarely even tried to run block and was not as effective at coming down with 50/50 balls as you'd like him to be. His 40-yard dash time was also slower than expected at 4.66s.
Philadelphia might be the perfect landing spot for Haselwood, however. The Eagles are loaded with smaller, shifty receivers. Olamide Zaccheaus, DeVonta Smith, Britain Covey, Quez Watkins, and Greg Ward are all under 6'0" tall or 200 pounds, or both. Haselwood would present a big-bodied option that could develop into a red-zone threat.
Ben VanSumeren, LB, Michigan State
VanSumeren could find his niche on special teams and contribute in a rotational role on defense. After two seasons at Michigan and one at Michigan State, VanSumeren struggled to get playing time. That all changed in VanSumeren's second season at Michigan State.
In 2022, BVS collected 81 tackles, three tackles for loss, and two sacks for the Spartans. The linebacker showcased the speed to cover running backs out of the backfield and has the perfect size for a Mike or Will linebacker.
What caused VanSumeren to go undrafted is likely his limited college production. The linebacker tested off the charts, but his tape did not always match his testing. Given the Eagles' lack of quality depth here, VanSumeren could show enough to latch on to a roster spot.
