It's a Philly thing, but the Philadelphia police department isn't up for the fun.
With Philadelphia on the edge of a Super Bowl appearance, the Philadelphia police department said it will put grease on traffic poles and light poles in case the Eagles win and the city's fans choose to celebrate.
"We will be instituting the practice of ‘greasing poles’ as a deterrent for climbing poles and light fixtures," a police spokesperson said. "We encourage everyone to celebrate safely and responsibly."
Apparently, the department is believing there will be large crowds in the city for Sunday's matchup with the San Francisco 49ers. The game is a home game for Philadelphia. And with the latest NFL controversy, it may be one of the last home conference championship games in NFL history.
The stage is set for Philly fans to show up and show out. However, the police department is trying to stay one step ahead.
Fox reported that barricades have already been set up across the city in anticipation of the post-game celebration.
"Many of the preparations that have been undertaken mirror similar events that have occurred in the past with the Phillies’ NLCS celebrations as the most recent example," police said.
The department will also add police officers on Sunday to ensure that Philadelphia fans don't get too out of hand.
Even those in charge of running the city of Philadelphia know that its football fans are simply different.
