Steelers GM Omar Khan hints that Chris Boswell’s record-setting deal may be the first of many this offseason in Pittsburgh
The Steelers have made their first contact extension of the offseason with Chris Boswell, but according to Omar Khan, that may be a sign of what is to come.
The Pittsburgh Steelers started what is going to be a busy offseason with a Chris Boswell contract extension earlier this week. One of the best kickers of his generation, the Steelers signed their star kicker to one of the highest-paid positional deals in NFL history.
And while we await the news at quarterback and a deal to come there, Omar Khan is already hinting at what’s next for the Steelers this offseason.
Steelers 2026 schedule facts
- Steelers to play against Saints in Paris, France.
- Steelers will travel 14,183 air miles in 2026, 26th most.
- Steelers to open Week 1 at home.
Omar Khan says more contract extensions could be on the way
“We’re in a good situation in the sense that we have some good young players,” Khan told James Harrison and Joe Haden on the Deebo and Joe Show via YouTube. “Realistically, you would love to get them all, probably doesn’t always happen that way, just constraints with the cap and other things.”
“We’re talking to some guys, and we’ll see where it goes, but it’s a good situation to be in. I love our group of young guys here. There are a lot of guys we hope will play double-digit years.”
Who could be next in Pittsburgh to sign a contract extension?
The 2023 class is brimming with talent that needs to be extended in Pittsburgh, but the two names to keep an eye on would be Joey Porter Jr., and of course Nick Herbig. I know there were some talks before the draft about the Steelers moving on from a pass rusher, but that has quieted down, and I never believed in the Herbig smoke.
He is the future of that position. A young, ascending talent who has only improved year over year in the sack department and his ability against the run, Herbig is here for the long haul.
The same has to be said for Joey Porter Jr, who has blossomed into a borderline All-Pro after overcoming his tackling woes and penalty deficiencies. We’ll see what all gets done in Pittsburgh this summer.
