“Oh, you think darkness is your ally. But you merely adopted the dark. I was born in it, molded by it. I didn’t see the light until I was already a man. By then, it was nothing to me but blinding.”

The famous quote from Tom Hardy’s famous character Bane in “The Dark Knight Rises” is one of the more oft-repeated ones from the entire Batman franchise. And for good reason. Bane was a brutal villain in the film, and his coldness was encapsulated when he uttered those three lines above.

Tampa Bay feels like they’re getting a player in Rueben Bain, Jr. who has been in the dark during the pre-draft process. At least in the context of being considered one of the very top picks. Instead, he was overlooked by over a dozen teams, landing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with the No. 15 overall pick.

Bain’s irritation was evident with the hat snatch and walk past the draft mirror. The Bucs are getting a player who is mad and all about business. And what better name than Bain to take on the look of the Batman villain next season.

Per the Bucs, Bain appears set to wear a facemask that closely resembles the inhaler/face guard that Bane wore in “The Dark Knight Rises”.

Bucs release a video teasing Rueben Bain, Jr. wearing the ‘Bane’ facemask

As the unseen narrator in the video notes, it won’t be the first time that a Bucs player has worn this particular facemask. William Gholston, who played for Tampa Bay from 2013-2024, donned the facemask during his final season with the Bucs.

However, it goes without saying that Bain carries the name to wear the facemask better than probably anyone to play in the league.

The Bucs have a player who had his own villain origin created last month in Pittsburgh on April 23. We’ll see if he makes the rest of the league pay, starting this season.
