The Rueben Bain Jr. hype began when the talented pass rusher fell to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at No. 15 in the 2026 NFL Draft.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve never seen the Buccaneers’ war room that excited after a first-round pick. I’m not talking about Jason Licht’s tenure in a vacuum, either. I’m talking all the way back to the Jon Gruden/Rich McKay days and even earlier than that.

Then, the hype surrounding Rueben Bain Jr. began to swell even more after an outstanding showing at rookie minicamp that led to some sincere compliments from Todd Bowles.

“He looked like he was in midseason form,” Bowles told reporters. “Obviously, he’s from Miami, so he’s going to be practicing in the heat, where a lot of the other guys are going to struggle to adjust to this weather. So, it didn’t both him at all. He came in in great shape, he ran around well, and he kind of picked up some things very well.”

Now, Rueben Bain Jr. and the Buccaneers are in Phase II of the offseason program and the praise hasn’t stopped, by any means.

“[Based] off the film, if you had to bet, he’s gonna be a star,” Buccaneers run game coordinator/outside linebackers coach Larry Foote told reporters via Tampa Bay Times’ Rick Stroud. “Just the way he plays the game: He’s explosive, plays with great leverage, and it’s hard to block those type of guys. Back in my Pittsburgh days, [I] played with a guy, James Harrison, like that. [You] just couldn’t block him, and [Bain Jr.] has that trait, he has that ability.

“[I’m] impressed with his mindset, and I kind of got a little feel for that when we interviewed him at the combine… He has that Lavonte David focus. That area down there in Miami, those guys are just Jesus 1A and football 1B. Those guys love ball. Even when it’s break time, he ain’t pulling his phone out like the rest of them, he’s all about ball.”

Larry Foote’s comments should have people hyped as ever when it comes to Rueben Bain Jr. and the Buccaneers

Foote’s remarks are loaded when it comes to describing Bain Jr.

I mean, the obvious start is being mentioned in the same breath as Harrison and David, two of the greatest to ever play their respective positions.

But in all honesty, his last sentence is what stands out to me. We know how serious Bain Jr. is from his famous hat-snatch and subsequent mirror-diss as he walked on stage. The fact it’s already showing through in practice by even concentrating and putting football first during a break is about as exciting as it can get for a rookie, if you ask me.

The Buccaneers’ pass rush will take on a whole new look and level of production if Bain Jr. takes this momentum into the regular season. As exciting as it is to think about, it’s important to remember that’s still a very, very long ways away.

But either way, Bain Jr. is off to a great start and that’s exactly what the Buccaneers need.
