One of the NFL’s top draft analysts addresses the discussion surrounding the best offensive prospect
NASHVILLE — NFL Draft analyst Todd McShay has been covering college football prospects and their path to the pros since 1998. McShay addressed the Tennessee Titans hypothetically selecting Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love,
McShay laid out several key factors at play in a recent appearance on The Buck Reising Show.
The Jeremiyah Love Debate
One media trope driving Tennessee fans crazy is that the Titans roster might not be good enough to support Love.
The question to McShay: do teams really feel that way?
“Of course [teams have that conversation],” said McShay. “[The Titans have] gotten better. Like this off season was huge for Tennessee. They’ve gotten a lot better on the defensive side. Their offensive line is okay. Would you say that they’re ready and that this is completed? No… It’s a tough one, man, because if you draft Jeremyiah Love and you feel like you’re doing all the right things for a young quarterback.
“Then you’re looking at a running back who now is like the seventh or eighth highest paid running back in the league and he’s never had a carry… You’re also battling the history that the running back who’s been taken in the top 10 hasn’t gone with that team and won a Super Bowl. Are we doing the right thing for the organization, even though it feels like the right thing for our young quarterback?”
Love might be the best player in the draft
In his three seasons with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Love amassed 2,882 rushing yards on 433 attempts (6.7. YPC) and 36 touchdowns. The Junior prospect also racked up 594 receiving yards on 63 catches (9.4) for six more scores in that same span. He will be an absolute weapon for whomever selects him.
Its a question of how consistently great he can be behind a Titans line that allowed Cam Ward to be sacked 55 times last season. Tennessee was also 28th in rushing EPA per attempt (-0.096).
