Titans big free agent contract to franchise left tackle Dan Moore telegraphs plans at quarterback for the 2025 NFL season
Titans signing of Dan Moore says a lot about QB plans.
NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Titans have a new starting left tackle, agreeing to a four-year, $82 million contract with free agent Dan Moore on Monday after the NFL's legal tampering window opened. The deal includes $30 million in 2025 and $50 million in guarantees.
Moore spent the first four seasons of his NFL career with the Pittsburgh Steelers where he started 66 games.
With Moore now locked in at left tackle for the 2025 season, we can assume that JC Latham will move back to the right side of the line. We also may be able to assume what the Titans are going to do at quarterback.
What Moore means for Titans QB
In my eyes, the addition of Moore to a big money contract with a lot of guarantees shows that pass protection is a major priority for Tennessee. It actually makes me feel more confident that the Titans will look to draft a rookie quarterback with the first overall pick who can start for them in Week 1.
Sam Darnold seems bound for Seattle. The Raiders have their guy in Geno Smith. Matthew Stafford isn't going anywhere after getting a new deal from the Rams…Every update on the quarterback carousel has pointed to the Titans being less involved in the market for a veteran that's worth starting.
While the Titans have reportedly had some interest in Zach Wilson and Mac Jones, neither one of those players are "starters," even if you do sign them. It's starting to feel like Tennessee will either draft a quarterback at No. 1 or essentially punt on the 2025 season…Are you really giving Dan Moore $30 million in 2025 to protect Mac Jones in a season you don't take seriously?
The other logical explanation is that you're paying him to help a young quarterback have immediate success. If I had to lock in a projection for Tennessee right now, it would be keeping the number one overall pick and selecting QB Cam Ward.
