The Commanders are running out of time to turn nightmare season around, and their season goals could change
The Commanders’ season is just about over, and now they need to change their focus.
The Washington Commanders fell to 3-5 after losing to the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday Night Football, and there’s not much time left to turn things around.
The expectations were high after a shocking season last year that raised the team’s standard, but now the Commanders are back to reality after multiple injuries and ugly losses. The schedule doesn’t get any easier, and this loss could be a turning point in how the Commanders react with the trade deadline approaching and the playoffs out of reach.
Sometimes you just have to chalk it up to a bad season and think about the future with keeping players healthy, and the changes you will be making in the offseason.
Commanders’ season could soon be over
The beginning of the season was supposed to be the easier part of the schedule, but instead, they lost winnable games against the Atlanta Falcons and Chicago Bears. They should be 5-3 right now with their playoff hopes still in reach, but instead, they showed they’re a flawed team that can’t play four full quarters.
The Commanders aren’t a playoff team with their injuries and poor play on both sides of the ball, and the next two games can seal the deal for the season.
The Commanders have the Seattle Seahawks and Detroit Lions next, and they’re 13th in the NFC, with four NFC losses, the second most in the conference. Two more NFC losses will put the Commanders in a position where they have to sweep the rest of the season to have a chance, and that’s just not realistic with this team.

The NFC is stacked this season, so Washington might have to win the NFC East to have a chance. The last four games of the season are NFC East matchups, so it will need a drastic turnaround to win them all.
Sadly, that doesn’t seem like a realistic possibility with the team playing the way it is, following two straight 21+ point losses, including one to the Dallas Cowboys. Injuries shouldn’t be an excuse, but they’ve certainly been a major factor in their season as well.
The Commanders can’t stay healthy

The Commanders have had the worst luck with injuries, forcing key players like Jayden Daniels and Terry McLaurin to miss multiple games, and they’ve only played two games together this season. The defense took a hit with season-ending injuries to Dorance Armstrong and Deatrich Wise, as well as missing Will Harris, for a while.
Every week, someone gets hurt, and now Laremy Tunsil is dealing with a hamstring injury he suffered against the Chiefs.
Daniels’ two injuries this season have been a major headline, and it will continue this week with hamstring injuries usually taking a week or two to recover from. The team shouldn’t shut Daniels down for the season, but they should be cautious and not push him back. The team needs to get healthy to have a shot next season, but it also needs many changes this offseason.
Commanders could sell at the trade deadline
If the Commanders need to decide who will be part of the team’s future, they can sell the players they can’t keep at the trade deadline. They don’t have a ton of assets, but they have some decisions to make with players like Daron Payne, Noah Igbinoghene, Brandon Coleman, and possibly Marshon Lattimore. The Commanders have only six draft picks and need more to rework the roster this offseason.
