Controversial NFL Draft prospect didn’t help his chances of Commanders selecting him after questionable decision
The Commanders have a lot to think about regarding one potential target with the No. 7 overall pick who decided to skip an important opportunity.
The Washington Commanders are doing a thorough search this offseason as they prepare to select the future of the franchise with the No. 7 overall pick.
They only have six picks in this draft as of now, and they can’t afford to miss with any of them, especially their first-round pick. The Commanders will have a tough decision to make when they’re on the clock, and it didn’t get any easier after one top option declined to improve his stock at the best possible time.
Rueben Bain Jr. declined to measure arm length at Miami’s Pro Day
The Commanders are traveling to the top college Pro Days around the country to get their eyes on the top prospects in the NFL Draft and decide if they should select them or not. The Miami Hurricanes held their Pro Day on Monday, where everyone was waiting to see premier prospect EDGE Rueben Bain Jr. put a lot of controversy to rest.
Well, those who showed up waiting to see his new arm length measurement left disappointed after Bain Jr. declined to do so, and just stuck with positional drills.
Bain Jr’s arm length has been a major talking point all offseason, and will be as he heads into the NFL. He’s sticking with his 30 7/8″ arm length measurements from the NFL Scouting Combine, which is concerning, considering numbers are usually inflated at Pro Days. Despite the decision, Bain Jr. still worked drills, where he looked impressive as always.
If the Commanders should consider taking Rueben Bain Jr with the No. 7 overall pick
There’s a growing chance that Bain Jr. will fall to the Commanders at the No. 7 overall pick, but does that mean they should take him? The Commanders addressed the defensive line in free agency after adding Odafe Oweh and K’Lavon Chaisson, but they still need long-term security at the position.
Bain Jr. would fit the scheme perfectly, since he can line up out wide and move inside to get pressure on the QB. General manager Adam Peters discussed the arm length debate at the NFL Scouting Combine, saying it’s all about how the player actually plays, and Bain Jr. was one of the best players in the country all season.
The Commanders could absolutely have interest in Bain Jr, but he could also be used as bait to trade back if they have real doubts about his arm length at the NFL level. They’ve done their homework on a possible trade back with their latest top-30 visits, and I wouldn’t rule it out if the board falls a certain way.
