The Washington Commanders are exactly one month away from the 2026 NFL Draft, where they have to nail their selection with the No. 7 overall pick.

There’s a handful of options on the table for the Commanders, depending on how the board falls, including WR Carnell Tate and CB Mansoor Delane. One NFL insider, however, says pump the brakes on arguably the top prospect going in the top-5, and watch for the Commanders to be the team to select him, which would be a steal.

Adam Schefter thinks the Commanders will take RB Jeremiyah Love with the No. 7 overall pick

There’s still plenty of time for things to change between now and the NFL Draft, but as of now, the NFL Draft board is starting to settle with where certain players will go. For weeks now, the Tennessee Titans have been the huge favorites to take RB Jeremiyah Love with the No. 4 overall pick, but Adam Schefter isn’t buying it, and he says the Commanders at No. 7 overall is where Love will end up going.

“To me, he’s [Love] a top-10 pick,” Schefter said. “I know a lot of people have had him going to Tennessee [Titans]. Again, it’s just not what I’m sensing right now. And by the way, it’s March 23rd, the draft is a month from now. . .As we sit here today, my guess would be that I don’t see him going to Tennessee.”

“I don’t see him going to the Giants at number five,” Schefter added. “Although that would be an interesting spot, and I think he’d have a lot of support there. To me, a place that makes sense today, a month out, would be the Washington Commanders. They’ve added to their running back room. I could see Washington being interested in a player like Jeremiah Love. Seven would be the spot if we go back to other years and other great running backs.”

“So to me, Washington. I know they went out, and they added Rachaad White, and they added some depth at the running back position, but I still think that if you could pair Jeremiyah Love and Jayden Daniels, that would be dynamic, and they’ve been in need at that spot. So to me, that’s a spot that I’m watching a month out.”

The Commanders should take Jeremiyah Love with the No. 7 overall pick if he falls to them

Love already confirmed that he met with the Commanders at the NFL Scouting Combine, and even talked about how much he loved Jayden Daniels at the Super Bowl radio row months ago. The Commanders should have a strong interest in Love, and seriously consider taking him if he falls to them at the No. 7 overall pick spot because he’s arguably the best player in the draft, regardless of position value.

Some fans will hate taking a RB that high with WR and CB as other needs, but the Commanders need blue-chip prospects to build around for the future, and taking the best player at that range is a massive win if he’s your franchise RB for years to come, and becomes one of the best in the league like he’s very capable of.

Love is the perfect balance of speed, power, and elusiveness, who can do it all as a RB. He can run routes better than most RBs in the NFL now, and can open the Commanders’ offense in many ways. Love finished his college career with 1,372 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns on the ground. The Commanders need a home-run threat who can stay on the field on all downs, and Love is the guy.
