On Friday, the Detroit Lions put out a transaction update where they had defensive lineman Levi Onwuzurike listed on the reserve/PUP list. The original thought was that being on that list meant that he was going to miss the first four games of the season. The other thought was that maybe this had something to do with his back injury history.

On the first day of training camp on Sunday, Dan Campbell confirmed that the injury was bad enough for him to miss camp, but bad enough for him to miss the season altogether. He also let the media know that it was not related to Onwuzurike's back and was his ACL that required surgery he could not avoid.

This is about the worst thing that could happen to the Lions at this time. After forgoing the addition of edge rush help and being without Alim McNeill until November, the Lions needed all the help they could get.

Campbell did say that he felt good about the depth that the Lions' defensive line has right now and that the team felt good about having first-round pick Tyleik Williams in place. He also said that the Lions need to know that reinforcements are coming, but they have to get by with what they have before that.

Now we wait to see if the Lions will look to add some extra defensive line help during camp. Everyone is waiting on the possible Za'Darius Smith return, but there have been no updates on the potential of that move at this time.
