A former Tennessee Vols standout who left the program after the 2023 season was named this week as a perfect fit for the Kansas City Chiefs on day three of the 2025 NFL Draft.
Pro Football Focus suggested this week that former Vols edge rusher Tyler Baron would be an ideal fit for the Chiefs in the later rounds of this year's draft.
Baron, who spent the first four seasons of his career at Tennessee, played for the Miami Hurricanes in 2024.
The Tennessee native finished his college career with 139 tackles, 39 tackles for loss, and 19 sacks.
From PFF: The Chiefs have struggled to consistently generate pressure off the edge, producing just an 18.2% pass-rush win rate last season — good for 29th in the NFL. Baron has the NFL frame you hope to see on the outside, and the metrics to match, as he earned a 91.0 PFF pass-rush grade on true pass sets across the past two seasons.
There were some draft analysts before last season who felt like Baron would be an early round selection, so it's a bit surprising to hear that he's expect to fall to the later rounds of the draft.
The Athletic's Dane Brugler noted this week that Baron is viewed as a "streaky competitor with ordinary play strength", which is one reason why the former Vol could fall to the later rounds of the draft.
Ultimately, though, landing with the Chiefs, regardless of what round, would be an ideal situation for any player.
